Project
This LIFE project will make possible recovery and management work in 35 wetlands adjacent to the Canal de Castilla. The geographic dispersion and small size of these wetlands has made previous management actions difficult and the conservation status of many of the wetlands is very unfavourable.
The proposed measures are designed to ensure comprehensive management of the wetland complex. The measures range from restoring water quality to managing marsh vegetation, and include planning public and other uses that can affect the wetlands, raising the awareness of the local community, and conducting scientific monitoring work to evaluate the evolution of the most endangered species and their response to the recovery measures.
A fundamental tool of the LIFE project is Management and Operation Plan for the wetlands of the Canal de Castilla. This document lists all conservation needs and articulates the measures and rules that will be used in the future to guarantee the conservation of the wetlands and ensure compatibility with other uses.
