Sites of action
The LIFE Nature project “Wetland Restoration and Management: Canal de Castilla SPA" targets 35 wetlands and their surroundings. These wetlands are distributed along the Norte and Campos branches of the Canal. The Norte branch has a total of 24 ponds and the Campos branch has 11 ponds.
The extension of the wetlands varies widely, from Sluice 4 pond with a quarter acre (0.1 hectares) to La Venta pond with more than 57 acres (25 hectares). Overall, the 35 wetlands where we will be working currently occupy an area of 225 acres (90 hectares), although this area will have increased by 88 acres (35.5 hectares) by the time the LIFE project concludes.
