What is LIFE?
LIFE has been the European Union’s financial instrument for the environment since it was introduced in 1992. LIFE cofinances environmental initiatives in Member countries of the European Union and in third countries. It is implemented through four-year programmes with three lines of action that centre, respectively, on Nature (e.g., application of the Birds (79/409/EEC) and Habitats (92/43/EEC) Directives, Natura 2000 Network), Environment, to develop Community Environmental Policy, and Third Countries, to undertake projects in neighbouring countries and candidates for adhesion.
